NOTICE OF BYLAW REVISIONS: Annual MEMBERs meeting @7pm 4/5

Friends of Fort Flagler Board has recommended that our bylaws be revised as reflected in the document available here (green side bar).

Join the Annual Members Meeting

A summary of revisions is as follows:

  • Advocacy for the park with governmental officials is added to the list of FoFF activities.
  • Changes in Article IV dealing with member dues were adopted by the Board in November, but they are called out for your information and review here.
  • Throughout the bylaws, electronic means of communication to members and for the conduct of Board business are authorized.
  • The range of Board size is changed to a minimum of three to a maximum of 13 members.
  • There is also a new provision regarding Board member attendance.
  • The Treasurer is no longer required to submit a bond.
  • Just as it requires a 2/3 vote of the Membership to approve changes in bylaws, a 2/3 vote by the Board to amend bylaws is required.

2022 PROPOSED BYLAWS

Language that is being eliminated appears in blue with a strike-through and language being added appears in red, underlined.

For the most part, the proposed changes are minor housekeeping items.  (The last time the bylaws received a major review was in 2018.)

How We Have Contributed to the Park

Examples from our past work are:

  • In 2021 New Mystery Bay Picnic Shelter, replaced former rotted version that was torn down nine years ago
  • In 2020, addition of a first-class basketball court to enhance the experience of youth visitors.
  • In 2019, a complete refresh of the park’s interpretive nature trail with bridges built and new signage throughout.
  • Annual spring campground cleanup and ongoing trail maintenance.
  • Summer concert series and indoor entertainment events during fall and winter months.
  • Halloween activities for adults and children alike.
  • Educational programs to enhance visitor understanding of the rich natural history of the park.
  • Years ago, volunteers contributed more than 6,000 hours to complete the renovation/restoration of the first-floor interior of the 1905 hospital building, with a charming small theater/meeting room, gathering places and a commercial kitchen.
